According to a recent announcement by the Greek Coast Guard, the Hellenic Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, has invited interested economic operators to open and non-binding information meetings to inform the Service about technological developments and the collection of essential information in the context of investigating available solutions to upgrade the operational capacity of the Hellenic Coast Guard’s Fixed Wing Squadron through the supply of two (02) new maritime surveillance planes.
The announcement concludes by attaching the demands of the Greek Coast Guard, and from those, we distinguished some of the most important points.
The mission of the planes is to be new, unused, modern, fully functional, and able to operate under adverse weather conditions, either autonomously as units or in cooperation with the other operational means of the Hellenic Coast Guard, such as helicopters, open sea vessels, lifeguards, and patrol boats, as well as with the operational means of other national agencies and EU Member States.
In particular, the planes will be suitable for carrying out the following operations/missions:
- Search and rescue (providing assistance to persons in danger at sea, ships, boats, or other marine vehicles and aircraft)
- Surveillance, policing, prevention, and suppression of any illegal activity that takes place in the marine environment (e.g., illegal entry of persons into Greek territory by sea, committing acts of terrorism, drug trafficking, all kinds of smuggling, illegal fishing, etc.)
- Prevention and dealing with pollution incidents
- Matters of public order and state security and generally covering operational needs that fall within the competences of the Hellenic Coast Guard
- Surveillance of the Greek maritime space and the EEZ.
The aircraft delivery schedule and place are as follows:
The first plane will be delivered within 24 (twenty-four) months from the signing of the contract, and the second within 05 (five) months after the first.
