Kazakhstan | “Attempt to overthrow the government by force”

Karim Massimov was arrested on charges of trying to overthrow the government. Massimov has been temporarily kicked out from the countries counterintelligence service by Kazakh President Kasim-Zomart Tokayev. The unrest of recent days is the worst in Kazakhstan since it became independent from the Soviet Union.

In the event of the violent demonstrations that have erupted in recent days in Kazakhstan The head of the country’s counter-terrorism and counterintelligence service, Karim Massimov, has been arrested on charges of trying to overthrow the government.

The National Security Committee, headed by Massimov, confirmed his arrest on Saturday. Massimov has been temporarily replaced by Kazakh President Kasim-Zomart Tokayev.

Kazakh authorities say there are dozens of dead and hundreds injured, including police officers. The interior ministry said on Saturday that more than 4,400 people had been arrested.

The unrest of recent days is the worst in Kazakhstan since it became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991.

It is recalled that Tokayev gave yesterday the command to the Kazakh army to shoot without warning. The government also requested military assistance from the CSTO and the first troops from former Soviet states have been arriving since yesterday.
