Libyan media reported that there have been lately suspicious actions by the Turkish forces at the Mitiga airbase outside the capital, Tripoli. Mitiga airport has a civilian part and a militia-controlled part, that Ankara uses as headquarters for its forces in Libya.
More specifically, a Turkish military helicopter was seen on Tuesday afternoon at the Mitiga base leaving Turkish soldiers in a Turkish equipment warehouse. The soldiers loaded boxes of equipment and quickly left the base.
The Turkish helicopter returned to the airport with more than 20 Turkish soldiers on board within a few hours.
As the time for the Libyan elections approaches and the Libyan Government along with the international community asking Turkey to withdraw its forces and mercenaries from the state, Ankara insists on violating the UN resolutions, trying to exert influence and control over the country.
