The “next time, send pillows,” the mayor of Kyiv said ironically, referring to Germany’s intention to send helmets as help to Ukraine, calling this offer a “joke”.
“I received a letter from the Ukrainian embassy asking for support with military equipment, helmets to be precise,” German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht stated while speaking to reporters.
“We will supply Ukraine with 5,000 helmets as a clear signal that we are on their side.” But Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said the German intention to send helmets have left him speechless and they probably don’t realize the magnitude of the risk of an invasion by Russia.
“The behaviour of the German government leaves me speechless. The Defence Ministry has apparently not realized that we are faced with perfectly equipped Russian forces that can launch another invasion of Ukraine at any time. What kind of support will it send next? Pillows?” said Klitschko to the German Bild.
Ukraine’s ambassador in Berlin called Germany’s move “clearly symbolic” and added that it is dripping in the ocean and does not “even make for comfort.”
