Aselsan signs $1.1 billion air-defence export contract with an undisclosed foreign customer

Turkey’s Aselsan says it signed a $1.1 billion contract to export air-defence systems to a foreign customer, without naming the buyer, the systems or the delivery schedule.

Turkey’s Aselsan announced that it has signed a $1.1 billion contract for the export of air-defence systems to a customer abroad. The company disclosed the deal on Tuesday, November 3, in a filing to Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform, and expects the contract to boost its revenue.

The identity of the buyer, the specific air-defence systems to be sold and the delivery schedule have not been disclosed. The new deal follows another export contract last month: in October Aselsan announced, in a separate filing, a sales contract worth $125 million with an end user abroad, for the export of weapons and electronic warfare systems.

What Aselsan offers in air defence

The company’s best-known air-defence systems form a multilayered architecture called the “Steel Dome”. At the top is SIPER, the main long-range surface-to-air missile system for medium to high altitudes. Aselsan develops it together with the Turkish missile maker Roketsan and the research institute Tübitak SAGE. Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries describes it as a system designed to counter aerial threats including fighter aircraft, cruise missiles and drones.

At medium and low altitudes operates the HISAR family, with the short-range HISAR-A+ and the HISAR-O for medium altitude. These systems protect critical military assets and installations from fighter aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft. KORKUT is a self-propelled and towed anti-aircraft system with 35 mm guns, known for its ATOM 35 air-burst rounds, and answers low-altitude threats, missiles and drones. Its fire-control system can coordinate the guns with HISAR-A+ launchers. GÜRZ is an autonomous hybrid self-propelled system combining guns and missiles on an armoured vehicle, for mobile point and area defence.

Rise in the global rankings

In the 2026 Defense News Top 100 list, which ranks defence companies by the previous year’s revenue, Aselsan rose from 43rd to 40th place. It thus became the first Turkish defence company in the top 40 and remains the highest-ranked of the five Turkish companies on this year’s list.
