Greece and the US announce $4 billion in Foreign Military Sales and the provision of Stryker vehicles to Greece
A joint statement issued after the sixth US–Greece Strategic Dialogue announces $4 billion in Foreign Military Sales and the provision of Stryker vehicles to Greece, and confirms Greece’s partnership with the Florida National Guard.
Greece and the United States have announced $4 billion in defence sales through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, that is, the US government’s government-to-government sales, in support of Greece’s long-term defence plan, and the provision of Stryker military vehicles to Greece. The announcement is contained in the joint statement issued by the State Department on Wednesday, October 7, after the sixth round of the US–Greece Strategic Dialogue in Athens, led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis.
According to the text, the sales are meant “to deepen our interoperability” and the two sides will “explore future opportunities for defense industrial base cooperation, including on innovative technologies”. The joint statement does not name the systems covered by the amount, nor does it give a timetable.
State Partnership Program with Florida and Stryker vehicles
On defence cooperation, the two countries “finalized Greece’s participation in the U.S. National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership Program with Florida, and enhanced interoperability through the provision of Stryker vehicles to Greece”. Athens and Washington reaffirmed “the strategic value of our defense cooperation in support of bilateral and NATO security objectives”, expanded law enforcement and counterterrorism cooperation, and reaffirmed their commitment to address illegal migration.
Energy, technology and shipping
On the economy, the two sides committed to work together on stronger investment screening and on protecting critical infrastructure procurements. With Greece a Pax Silica signatory, they welcomed growing cooperation in super intelligence, high-performance computing, cybersecurity and advanced technologies. On energy, the statement refers to the November 2025 P-TEC ministerial, the Vertical Gas Corridor and hydrocarbon exploration. The two governments also signed an agreement on certification for US seafarers on Greek vessels.
The two governments signed an extension of their Cultural Property Agreement, to protect cultural heritage and combat illicit trafficking networks, and announced the first US project in Greece under the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.
