Turkey: Record EUR 2.46 billion contract for ASELSAN as the “Steel Dome” expands

ASELSAN signed contracts worth EUR 2.46 billion with Turkey’s Defence Industries Agency for “hybrid air defence systems”, the largest order in its 51-year history. The money expands the multi-layered Steel Dome (Çelik Kubbe) air defence system.

ASELSAN has signed contracts worth EUR 2.46 billion with Turkey’s Defence Industries Agency (SSB) for the procurement of “hybrid air defence systems”. It is the largest order in the company’s 51-year history and finances the expansion of Turkey’s multi-layered “Steel Dome” (Çelik Kubbe) air defence system.

ASELSAN disclosed the contracts to the Istanbul stock exchange’s Public Disclosure Platform on October 5, without giving quantities, configurations or a delivery schedule. Hürriyet Daily News puts the value at about $2.75 billion.

What the order probably includes

The order is believed to cover the Gürz system, although the company has not confirmed this. Gürz combines guns, anti-aircraft and anti-missile missiles, a 3D AESA radar, a fire-control radar, electro-optical sensors and electronic warfare equipment on a single vehicle. Gürz-H is intended for the Air Force and Gürz-K for the Land Forces, while a naval version, Gürz-D, is under development. The self-propelled 35 mm Korkut anti-aircraft gun is also expected to be integrated into the system.

The Steel Dome links sensors, command systems and weapons of different ranges in a common architecture. It includes Korkut, Gökberk and Göker, the HİSAR short- and medium-range missiles and the SİPER for longer distances, with the HAKİM command system tying it all together. The lower layers are intended, among other things, against drones and loitering munitions.

More than EUR 10 billion since December 2023

The new contract exceeds ASELSAN’s previous large air defence orders: EUR 1.65 billion in September 2025, EUR 780 million in June and about EUR 1.47 billion in July 2026 to increase serial production. In total, air defence contracts awarded to Turkish industry since December 2023 reach EUR 10.93 billion.

The programme directly concerns Greece, as a dense, multi-layered air defence is the environment the Hellenic Air Force would have to penetrate in a crisis. Systems of the HİSAR family have already been tested in combat, with the RSF drone strike on a HİSAR-A in Sudan in May.
