The Israeli Defense Forces have disclosed that a Palestinian journalist, known for his work with the Qatari-owned network Al Jazeera, is allegedly linked to Hamas’s military operations. IDF’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, reported the discovery of a laptop during an IDF operation in northern Gaza, believed to belong to Mohamed Washah from Buriej in central Gaza.
Washah, who has recently gained recognition through his appearances on Al Jazeera, is now at the center of controversy following Adraee’s assertion. The evidence obtained from the laptop suggests that Washah has been serving as a “prominent commander” within Hamas’s anti-tank missile unit. His involvement with the group appears to have deepened in late 2022 when he reportedly took on a role in research and development for Hamas’s air unit.
The IDF’s allegations come in the wake of an incident last month where two Al Jazeera journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Rafah. After their death, the IDF accused them of being affiliated with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad—both recognized as terrorist organizations by Israel and other countries.
