An incident occurred on Friday in the region of Tylliria, Cyprus, between the Cyprus’ Port Police and a Turkish coast guard.

According to statements by the spokesman of the Cyprus Police, Christos Andreou, on the Cyprus state-run TV, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., when a Boat of the Port Police located in the area of Pyrgos for patrol was approached by a Turkish coast guard.

A few minutes later the Turkish coast guard, following the boat, fired four warning shots towards the Cypriot boat. When the Cypriot Port Police boat arrived at a fishing lodge, the Turkish coast guard left the scene.

Mr. Andreou said it was the first time such an incident had happened and pointed out that the Police would inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the incident.
