The exercise was carried out in the context of the implementation of the Bilateral Defense Cooperation Program between the Republic of Cyprus and the State of Israel and is the largest exercise to date conducted by the two countries in terms of personnel and media participation.

The exercise “AGAPINOR-2022” was conducted in parts of the land, sea and airspace of Cyprus, while at the same time parts of the Armed Forces went to Israel where they were trained with IDF in various subjects such as combat within a residential area, artillery and artillery tactics […]

The objective set during the design of the exercise was to train personnel in scenarios that simulate the conditions of wartime operations and relate to decision-making processes, the issuance of orders, the execution of combined operations and survival on the modern battlefield.

The planning and coordination of the exercise was carried out by the General Staff of the National Guard in collaboration with the National Training Center of the IDF, while the management was carried out on the field, through the cooperation of the Exercise Control Centers and the exchange of links between the two General Staffs and various levels of administration.

The exercise tested both offensive and defensive operations, including large-scale amphibious and airborne operations, racing in residential areas, mountain racing, bridging, and special operations.

At the same time, the Minister of Defense of the State of Israel, Mr. Benny Gantz visited Cyprus and the training units and was briefed on the progress of the exercise, in the presence of the two Chiefs and the General Director of Ministry of Defense of Cyprus, Mr. Andreas Loukas.

From the meetings of the Commander of the National Guard with the political and military leadership of the Israeli Armed Forces that visited Cyprus, it was a common finding that the AGAPINOR-2022 contributed to gaining experience and recording lessons to improve the operational capabilities of the two Armed Forces.

At the same time, the exceptional degree of cooperation between the staff of National Guard and the Israeli Defense Forces was underlined, which was highlighted by the perfection of the design and its successful implementation.

Finally, it was noted that the exercise highlights the strategic relationship and strengthens the ties between Cyprus and Israel, thus contributing to the consolidation of security and stability in the wider region.” the statement concludes.
