Turkey has caused a big rise in military tensions in the last few days by violating Greek airspace and flying over the Greek islands.
On the occasion of the unprecedented Turkish overflights, the Greek air defenses of the Aegean islands were activated as part of an exercise according to Greek Military news sites.
The Turkish provocation also provoked the reaction of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which in just two days has made two protests against the Turkish ambassador in Athens.
Despite the Greek reaction, however, Turkey not only did not comply with those protests but the Turkish Foreign Minister tried to do “the white, black” by accusing the Greek Air Force of overflights on the Turkish coast.
The protests, according to a relevant announcement, were more intense than the other and were made on the order of the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.
The Greek ministry also said that officials from the EU, NATO, the UN, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and members of the UN Security Council were immediately briefed on the Turkish provocative actions.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “the statements of the Foreign Ministry of Greece about the incidents that took place between the Air Forces of the two countries in the Aegean on April 27, 2022, does not reflect the truth “.
The Turkish ministry also notes that “on April 26-28, 2022, the Hellenic Air Force carried out provocative flights close to the Turkish coast and repeatedly violated Turkish airspace over Didim, Datça, and Dalaman. “The Turkish Air Force responded to these provocative flights and violations in accordance with its rules of engagement.”
With this statement, Ankara accused Greece of escalation and demands an end to Athens’ aggressive actions and rhetoric, as Turkey is trying to play the role of the victim
