The press office of the Russian Central Military District reported today, Monday, that the commander of the forces, Colonel Alexander Lapin, paid an inspection visit to Russian military facilities in Tajikistan. In light of the worsening security situation in neighbouring Afghanistan.
The Russian press office said, in a statement:
“The commander of the Central Military District, Colonel Alexander Lapin, visited the Okno-electronic observatory complex of the Russian Aerospace Force, located in the Sangluk Mountains in Tajikistan.
During the visit, the commander of the Central Military District was briefed on the privacy of the Russian facility located in Tajikistan. He also visited an army camp located in the city of Nurik in Tajikistan.
During the visit, Labin noted that the combat readiness and level of professional training of soldiers meet modern requirements.
The electronic observatory for observing space objects “Okno” is located at an altitude of 2.2 thousand meters above sea level, in the “Sangluk Mountains”, and is designed to detect and classify space objects at altitudes of up to 50 thousand kilometers.
