Two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels were intercepted over the skies of Abu Dhabi early Monday morning, according to the United Arab Emirates Defence Ministry.
“United States military forces successfully reacted to multiple inbound threats during an attack near Abu Dhabi” a US Air Force official stated for the attack on Abu Dhabi.
In a video recorded statement, Houthi military spokesman Yehia Sarei took responsibility for the ballistic missile attack, stating that the Houthis used Zulfiqar ballistic missiles and drones to hit multiple targets in the UAE, including Al-Dhafra Air Base warning the UAE that will remain a target “as long as the attacks on the Yemeni people continue.”
During the ballistic missile attack, US forces stationed at Al-Dhafra Air Base in the capital took refuge in bunkers on the base, and it’s not clear if the USAF was involved in the counter attack of UAE F-16s against the missile launch site in Yemen.
Emirate citizens posted videos to social media showing the sky over the Emirati Captial Abu Dhabi illuminated as Air Defence missiles were fired to shoot down the incoming Houthi Ballistic Missiles.
