KHALIFA HAFTAR IS BACK: Tripoli Court reinstates him as a presidential candidate

The Tripoli Court of Appeals overturned the decision of the Al-Zawiya court and reinstated the candidacy of Khalifa Haftar in the Libyan presidential elections.

The decision comes a week after the Al-Zawiya Court of First Instance upheld the appeal filed against Haftar’s candidacy and ordered that he not be included in the list of candidates for the elections scheduled for December 24.

Following a decision by Libya’s Supreme Judicial Council in November, it was decided that appeals against candidates could only take place in their constituency.

In a related development, the Sabha Court of Appeal issued a final decision in favour of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, on an appeal filed against him by the Libyan Supreme National Electoral Commission (HNEC).

The first round of voting is scheduled to begin on December 24 in Libya, although some controversial issues have not yet been resolved.

The full list of candidates for the upcoming elections has not yet been announced. This comes amid an appeal process, which began after Libya’s Supreme National Electoral Commission initially cancelled 25 of its 98 entries.
