In the face of fierce resistance from the Ukrainians, Russia escalated its airstrikes and artillery fire against Ukrainian cities and military infrastructure.
Officials from the United States said there was great concern about how Putin would react to strong Ukrainian resistance. In particular, they expressed concern that Russian President Vladimir Putin, outraged by the resistance of the Ukrainian army, could consider indiscriminate attacks.
