The new transitional Prime Minister of Libya, Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, denied accusations of bribery in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) elections held a few weeks ago in Geneva.
The new Presidential Council was elected with complete transparency, Dbaiba stated on Sunday.
Dbaiba’s media office stressed that the process of providing confidence to his government is close to completion and that the days of political and institutional division, the absence of basic services, and poor economic conditions are going to end soon.
A report of UN experts was leaked the previous days, stressing that two participants of the LPD Forum allegedly offered bribes of 150,000 to 200,000 US dollars to at least three other participants, if they voted for Dbaiba as the new government’s Prime Minister.
According to the report, one of the participants “erupted in anger in a hotel lobby upon hearing that some participants may have received up to $500,000 for their Dbaiba vote, whereas he had only received $200,000.”
The report is going to be presented to the United Nations’ Security Council on March 15th.
