Ukraine’s President said that the country deserves to be a full member of NATO adding it is not the one that should ask to join the alliance but instead, NATO should send Ukraine an invitation.
“I believe that Ukraine deserves more. We deserve to be one of the equals in the alliance, to be among the powerful countries. We should be invited – I think it’s fair. We should not ask,” Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Tuesday, commenting on the results of the NATO summit held on Monday.
“Our military demonstrates the strength and power of the armies that it is ready to defend. I talked about it with the leaders of NATO member states and invited them to Donbass to see the level. We deserve to be members of the alliance if the alliance sees Ukraine among NATO members, not behind the scenes, but at the table,” Zelensky added.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, also commenting on the results of the NATO summit, said that Ukraine has carried out many reforms and would like to receive the Plan of Action on NATO membership in 2022.
The participants of the NATO summit held on June 14th stressed in the final statement that Ukraine and Georgia will be able to become members of the alliance in the future without providing any specification.
