US destroyers Roosevelt and Donald Cook will cross the Bosphorus Strait into the Black Sea next week, Turkish tv channel NTV reported on Friday.

CNN reported on Thursday citing a U.S. Pentagon official that the United States is considering sending warships to the Black Sea in the coming weeks, in a sign of support for Ukraine.

As the U.S. official said, the U.S. Navy regularly operates in the Black Sea, but the deployment of warships would now send “a specific message” to Moscow.

The official added that the US did this amid allegations of Russia’s increased military presence on Ukraine’s eastern border.

A Turkish Foreign Ministry source told TASS news agency earlier on Friday that two US warships will enter the Black Sea via the Bosphorus Strait on April 14 and 15 and will remain there until May 4-5.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Defense did not confirm to TASS the information that the US is considering sending its warships to the Black Sea in the coming weeks in a show of support for Ukraine.
