Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement that Moscow considered the statement by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on the country’s unification with Kosovo completely unacceptable.
“We consider completely unacceptable the statement of the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, for the unification of Albania and Kosovo.
“Promoting plans to create a ‘Greater Albania’ is in complete contradiction with the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and undermines stability in the region,” Zakharova said.
“It is particularly strange here that the breach of the document, which is fundamental to the settlement of Kosovo, is being declared as a ‘key target’ in the political career of the leader of a Balkan country,” the spokeswoman said.
“Such harmful cases do not fit in at all with the co-operation efforts of Belgrade and Tirana to create a common market, which they undertook in the framework of the Open Balkans Regional Initiative, which is also a joint initiative with Skopje,” he said.
We look forward to an appropriate response from the Western curators of Kosovo’s “nation-building” program to this daring challenge.
“We are particularly surprised that they are unaware of such subversive incidents, while directly criticizing Belgrade in relation to the humanitarian idea of the ‘Serbian world’, which is justified and in line with international law,” Zakharova concluded.
