According to an announcement by the Ministry of National defence of Greece, Greek Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos is looking to cooperate with Israel on several military programs and seeks Israeli know-how and weapons.
In a response to a journalist question from Greek newspaper “TA NEA” about the visit to Tel Aviv, Nikos Panagiotopoulos stated:
“The bilateral relationship with Israel is of a strategic nature and manifests itself in very intense activity in defence cooperation for the benefit not only of the two countries but also of security and stability in the wider region.
Israel has invested and continues to invest in the field of Defence and Security, developing a highly productive defence industry, but also amazing know-how in cutting-edge systems, in new technologies.
With my counterpart, but also with officials of the competent Services of the Israeli Ministry of Defence, we discussed the possibilities of synergies between Israeli companies and the Greek defence industry, in terms of transfer of know-how for the upgrading of our weapon systems and not only that.
The potential is enormous and the prospects are particularly beneficial, as there is a mutual will to cooperate.” stated the Greek Minister of Defence.
