Komyshuvakha: double strike with FAB-3000 bombs on a humanitarian aid centre, at least 31 dead and almost 50 missing

Two successive Russian guided-bomb strikes on a former school and its shelter in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, killed at least 31 people with almost 50 missing, Ukrainian officials say. The building served as a humanitarian aid centre.

Two successive strikes with Russian guided bombs on a former school and its shelter in Komyshuvakha, in the Zaporizhzhia region, have left at least 31 dead and almost 50 missing. The building served as a humanitarian aid centre, where the village’s residents collected aid every Monday. Rescuers continued the search in the rubble on Tuesday, November 3, while Volodymyr Zelensky spoke of 33 dead and more than 50 people who may still be trapped.

The toll of 31 dead, five injured and about 50 missing was given in a television interview by Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the region’s military administration. “The scale of the tragedy is terrifying,” he wrote in a post, calling it one of the worst for the region’s civilian population since the start of the full-scale invasion. Among the dead are four police officers and two State Emergency Service rescuers, Denys Konovalenko and Oleksii Sushchevskyi, both 44. The region declared three days of mourning for November 3, 4 and 5.

A double strike and FAB-3000 bombs

Zelensky described a two-phase attack. Russian aircraft repeatedly bombed the settlement from the morning of Monday, November 2 and hit the school first. After the first strike they dropped nine more bombs on the shelter where civilians had sought refuge. “The Russians could not have been unaware that the residents who remain in Komyshuvakha receive humanitarian aid there every week,” the president said.

Semikin said the Russians first used FAB-500 bombs and then FAB-3000s. The FAB-3000 weighs three tonnes and carries about 1,400 kilograms of explosives, and is designed to destroy concrete fortifications. After the direct hit the underground part of the structure collapsed, where people who had come for humanitarian aid were located. The State Emergency Service said police and rescuers had arrived at the scene when a new strike threat emerged. Rescuers took cover and the Russians hit the same spot again, destroying a gym, an outbuilding and a fire engine.

The search is slowed by Russian drones, shelling and dense smoke inside the collapsed building, police said, while the constant risk of a new strike also hampers the teams. Zelensky, speaking in Berlin at a joint press conference with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said five people have been rescued so far. Komyshuvakha is about 20 kilometres from the front line and has been considered a front-line settlement since November 2025. In June a Russian drone hit the village during an aid distribution and injured four people.

The strike came after the Oleshky truce

The attack came a day after the end of the six-day truce in occupied Oleshky, in the Kherson region, which allowed trapped residents to be evacuated. “We proposed to Russia to extend the Oleshky ceasefire and the answer was new attacks, new strikes, new killings of our people,” Zelensky said. On the truce and the evacuation, see our report on Oleshky.

Overnight into Tuesday Russia launched 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles across nine regions, causing emergency power outages, Zelensky wrote in a post. In Kharkiv a Russian missile and drone attack injured at least 62 people, local authorities said. The developments come shortly before a new round of US-mediated talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. The Kremlin announced that the Russian delegation will be led by Vladimir Medinsky, while Zelensky said Ukraine’s agenda includes security guarantees, an “energy ceasefire” and a Black Sea ceasefire.
