New Russian military exercises near Ukraine

Russia had amassed tens of thousands of troops on Ukraine’s border, raising fears of Ukraine for a possible invasion of the Russian army, with some de-escalation moves having lowered the tones between the two sides.

That fear, however, seems to be reinforced by the fact that Russian military exercises near Ukraine have been resumed on Tuesday, amid talks to find a political solution.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the talks with the USA on Tuesday as “open, comprehensive and immediate”, but added: “At this point, we see no hope of finding a real solution.”

The Russian government has asked the US to not allow Ukraine and Georgia to enter NATO, despite the applications that these two countries want to send to the alliance.
