Japanese Air Force fighter jets intercepted Russian and Chinese bombers that flew over the Western Pacific on Tuesday on a joint patrol mission.
Japan’s Ministry of Defense stated that two Russian Tu-95MS Bear-H bombers and four Chinese H-6K Badgers remained in international airspace and flew over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea before being intercepted by the Japanese fighters.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Russian bombers participated together with the Chinese in a joint patrol mission in the Western Pacific.
“The joint mission was aimed at developing and deepening the overall Russia-China partnership, further enhancing the level of cooperation between the two armies, expanding their capacity for joint action and strengthening strategic stability,” the Russian army stated on Tuesday.
The first joint air patrol between China and Russia in the region took place on July 23, 2019, in which China had sent two H-6K bombers and Russia two Tu-95 bombers.
