Russian forces launched a new offensive on a wide front in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday to occupy eastern Ukraine at a time when military failure in the Kyiv operation and the destruction of the Russian Cruiser Moskva damaged the morale of the Russian military.
Russian forces are concentrating their efforts on full control of the Donbas region, according to a statement issued by Ukraine’s General Staff on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian commanders announced that “Russian forces tried to break our lines of defense almost the entire front line.”
Large-scale new attacks began on Monday along a stretch of more than 500 kilometers, with Russian forces entering several Ukrainian cities and villages that failed in the first phase of the war, including Kharkiv.
The Russian forces are concentrating their efforts this time in the areas of Donbas, namely Donetsk and Luhansk after the failure of their campaign in Kyiv.
Russian forces are expected to be more successful in eastern Ukraine than they were in Kyiv, as residents of the region have large Russian-speaking populations.
