In a statement on Thursday, UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace warned that Russia could declare war on the Nazis on Victory Day on May 9, which marks the end of World War II.
UK Department of Defense officials said earlier this month that Russia likely intends to demonstrate a major military achievement before the big celebration.
Wallace made the remarks during a radio interview on LBC on Thursday morning. When asked by the show’s presenter, Nick Ferrari, about Victory Day, he replied:
“Well, I think we’ve seen Putin say a lot of times recently, ‘This is going to be a war, this is a proxy war; the Nazis are basically everywhere.’ Not only in Ukraine, but NATO is also full of Nazis…
And I think what he’s going to do is move away from his “special operation” and “pave the way” so he can say, ‘Look, this is a war against the Nazis now, and what I need is more people, I basically need more consumables “
Wallace went on to say that he had no clear information about this, but that Putin was likely to announce in May that Russia was at war with the “Nazis of the world” and that the Russian people should mobilize en masse.
“This is actually a pathetic attempt to cover up the fact that his generals have actually sent thousands of men to their deaths because of their incompetence and arrogance and Putin’s selfishness,” Ben Wallace added.
