Speaking to reporters at NATO, US President Joe Biden spoke about a possible Russian chemical attack on Ukraine and whether NATO would respond militarily.
The first question journalists asked at Biden’s press conference was whether the United States have received specific information that Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering using chemical weapons in Ukraine and whether the United States or NATO will respond militarily if it does.
“I’m not going to give you information, number one, number two. We will respond if he uses them and the nature of the answer will depend on the nature of the use. “
Correspondent of ABC News at the White House Cecilia Vega asked shortly after:
“If chemical weapons are used in Ukraine, could this provoke a military response from NATO?”
“It would provoke a similar response,” Biden replied. “Whether NATO moves will be decided at that moment.”
For the first time, the US President does not completely rule out the possibility of a military response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which of course is not expected to happen as the risk of a global conflict will then be huge and Biden himself has repeatedly ruled out this possibility.
