United States Navy announced that it seized an arms shipment with thousands of machine guns, assault weapons & sniper rifles hidden aboard a cargo ship in the Arabian Sea heading probably for Yemen.
Furthermore, according to, preliminary results of the investigation, during which the crew of the vessel detained by the US Navy missile cruiser USS Monterey in international waters was interrogated, indicate that it was heading from Iran to Yemen. The weapons on it were intended, according to the conclusions of US military experts, for the Houthis.
A US defense official said to The Associated Press(AP) confirmed that the investigation found the vessel came from Iran. Iran’s mission to the U.N. did not respond to a journalist’s request for comment, though Tehran has denied in the past giving the rebels weapons.
On Saturday, the press service of the Navy of the Central Command of the American Armed Forces, whose operational responsibility includes primarily the Middle East, reported that on May 6-7, the U.S. military managed to detain in the northern part of the Arabian Sea a ship carrying a shipment of Russian and Chinese-made weapons.
According to the US Navy’s press service, dozens of modern Russian-made anti-tank guided missiles, thousands of Chinese Type-56 assault rifles, hundreds of Kalashnikov machine guns, sniper rifles, and hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, as well as modern optical sights were found on board.
