The Cyprus Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry announced that work has begun on the “Glaucus-2” rating drilling in Block 10 of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, by the consortium ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) Limited and Qatar Petroleum International Upstream LLC, which holds a Hydrocarbon Exploration License for the said Block.

The drilling operations, carried out by the drillship “Stena Forth”, will be monitored on an ongoing basis by the personnel of the Hydrocarbons Service, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry.

We recall that the commencement of drilling was already scheduled to begin based on the announcement of Natasha Pilidou and had provoked the strong reaction of Ankara.

The drillship Stena Forth is supported by the support-refuelling ship Demarest Tide, the vessel Lundstrom Tideo and the Cypriot-flagged EDT LEON.

If provoked, a Greek frigate will be sent to the area immediately, as well as possibly US destroyers located near the area, as ExxonMobil is a company of American interests.
