Guilfoyle: “The allegations are false”; the US ambassador confirms the end of her term in Athens

Kimberly Guilfoyle confirmed that her term as US ambassador to Greece is coming to an end and, for the first time personally, rejected the allegations that led to her removal.

Kimberly Guilfoyle has confirmed that her term as US ambassador to Greece is coming to an end. In a lengthy post on Tuesday, October 13, hours after the White House formally asked for her resignation, she wrote that “my time as ambassador may be coming to an end, but my commitment to President Trump, to the America First movement and to the country I love will never end”.

In the same message she rejects, for the first time personally, the allegations that led to her removal. “I also want to respond to the recent accusations against me. These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation and my integrity,” she writes, adding that she will not allow “false accusations” to define decades of public service.

“Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime. I will forever be grateful to President Donald J. Thanks to Trump and Rubio

Guilfoyle calls her service in Athens “the honor of a lifetime” and thanks President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for entrusting her with the post. She stresses that her gratitude and respect for both “remain unshakable” and that she will always be a loyal supporter of Trump.

The reference matters because only a day earlier Trump himself had said of her “We’re looking at it, we’re not happy”, as Geopolitiki reported, while Rubio had publicly defended her after the first reports.

Her own record of the term

The outgoing ambassador presents her own account for Greece. She writes that the embassy helped secure “historic agreements” on expanding exports of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe, that the Vertical Corridor was promoted to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian energy, and that defence cooperation with Greece, which she calls a “critical NATO ally”, was strengthened. She also cites new opportunities for American businesses and investment in the region and the role of the US as an “indispensable leader in Southeast Europe”. She closes by thanking the Greeks “for their hospitality, cooperation and for welcoming me with open arms”.

The post gives no departure date, nor does it say whether she has already submitted a written resignation to the State Department.

What comes next for the embassy

Guilfoyle had begun her path to Athens with a positive stance towards Greece at her Senate hearing in July 2025. The White House has not yet announced a replacement. Appointing a new ambassador requires a nomination by the President and Senate approval, a process that usually takes months, and until then the US embassy in Athens will be run by a chargé d’affaires.
