North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reiterated his warning about the use of nuclear weapons if the country is threatened, while congratulating senior army officials on holding a major military parade in the capital, Pyongyang, earlier this week.
North Korea’s official news agency, KCNA, said Kim had expressed a “firm will” to continue to develop nuclear weapons in order to “Limit and thwart preemptively and completely all dangerous efforts and threatening moves, including the ever-escalating nuclear threats from enemy forces, if necessary”
According to the KCNA, Kim called on army officers to congratulate them on Monday’s parade, in which Pyongyang unveiled its most powerful weapons, including intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.
North Korea has also introduced a number of short-range missiles designed to launch from land vehicles or submarines, increasing the threat to South Korea and Japan.
