Baykar says its Akinci armed drone has scored a direct hit on its first firing with the Morfoz guidance kit (MGK), a precision kit developed by the Turkish company Aselsan. The test took place on 8 October, according to a Baykar press release published the following day.
The Akinci took off from the Çorlu Flight Training and Test Center in Tekirdağ, fired over the Gulf of Saros and returned to Çorlu. Baykar describes the target only as a “designated target” and does not state the type of target, the release distance or the weight of the munition used.
What was tested
The Morfoz is a guidance kit, a module that turns an unguided bomb into a guided one. Baykar says Aselsan built it with entirely indigenous components. The Akinci also carried the Alpagut munition, developed by Roketsan and STM, during the sortie, but the release reports the direct hit only for the MGK firing.
The test adds to a series of weapons trials Baykar has publicised in recent weeks. The company lists among the munitions already integrated on the Akinci the MAM family, the LGK and HGK guidance kits and the Sungur air defence missile, and it has reported earlier firings of the Sungur and of the supersonic UAV-300 missile from the same aircraft.
Industry context
Aselsan is also in the news for air defence: Turkey: Record EUR 2.46 billion contract for ASELSAN as the “Steel Dome” expands. In the same release Baykar says it exported $2.2 billion worth of systems in 2025 and has signed export agreements with 39 countries. Those are the company’s own figures and are not independently verified.
Baykar’s statement is the only source for the test result. No Turkish defence ministry or procurement agency statement on the firing was found at the time of writing.
