At DEFEA 2023, Iveco Defence Vehicles presented the MUV 4×4 and a heavier military truck as options relevant to the Greek Army’s vehicle renewal. These are different logistics categories: a light utility vehicle cannot replace the payload of a heavy transporter. The exhibition showed available products, not a Greek procurement decision.
MUV 4×4: Light utility and support
IDV describes its Military Utility Vehicle as a flexible 4×4 for logistics, patrol and other support tasks. Its published configurations can reach a gross vehicle weight of 7 tonnes and a payload of up to 4 tonnes. These are upper figures for selected versions, not a promise that every troop-carrying or protected variant has the same capacity.

The heavier truck and the fleet problem
IDV’s defence-truck range covers medium and heavy transport, a separate need from the MUV. A heavy truck can move supplies and specialised bodies, but the operational comparison must include axle load, bridge limits, protection, fuel consumption and workshop requirements. Figures quoted for a displayed M1250 configuration should not be applied to all IDV models.
For Greece, replacing older trucks would require a fleet plan rather than a single showroom choice. In March 2025, IDV and METLEN announced a strategic alliance aimed at the Hellenic Army’s truck modernisation. That industrial agreement is relevant to the proposal, but it should not be described as an Army purchase contract. The decision rests on tested vehicles, support terms and life-cycle cost.
