On Tuesday, two senior US intelligence officials told Congress that Russian armed forces invading Ukraine have been bogged down by Ukrainian Armed Forces and have moved to a war of attrition.
At a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on global threats, Army Lt. Gen. Scott Berrier said, “The Russians aren’t winning, and the Ukrainians aren’t winning, and we’re at a bit of a stalemate“
“The invasion has demonstrated Russia’s intent to overturn the United States led, post-Cold War international order, expand its control over the former Soviet Union and reclaim what it regards as its rightful position on the world stage,” Berrier said.
Berrier was also criticized on the intelligence that US had when Russia invaded Ukraine and said that they had overestimated the Russian Army.
Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines stated that “the Russians encountered greater resistance from Ukraine than they had anticipated, and their own military performance revealed a number of significant internal challenges, forcing them to adjust their initial military objectives and withdraw from Kyiv in order to concentrate on Donbas.”

This came after officials from the United States’ Defense Department indicated on Monday that Russian soldiers have made little progress in the eastern Ukraine despite some minor victories.
