According to Chinese state media, China warned US as Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Joe Biden on Friday that the Taiwan issue must be “handled properly.”
The United States, which in recent days have been seeking China’s help in bringing immediate peace to Ukraine, has not maintained formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan but is the country’s largest military supplier.
This US support for Taiwan is the biggest thorn in US-China relations.
On Friday, Xi told Biden that “some people in the United States are sending the wrong message to pro-independence groups in Taiwan, and that’s extremely dangerous.” “If the Taiwanese problem is not dealt with properly, it will have a detrimental effect on relations between the two countries,” he stressed to Biden.
According to a White House statement, Biden reiterated during the phone call communication with Xi that US policy towards Taiwan has not changed.
Despite diplomatic talks between the two countries, the Chinese aircraft carrier crossed the straits of Taiwan under surveillance by a US destroyer patrolling the area, indicating that the Taiwan issue will not be resolved so easily.
