Erdogan on the 99th anniversary of the Laussane treaty: New claims against the status of the Greek islands

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made statements on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne.

“With the Lausanne Peace Treaty, our land borders were drawn, the capitulations were abolished, the rights of the Turkish minority in Greece were guaranteed and the demilitarized status of the Greek islands near our shores was confirmed,” Erdogan said.

“In the last period, the conditions recorded in the treaty, especially the rights of the Turkish minority, have been ignored by Greece. It is not possible for our country to accept this situation, which is incompatible with the principle of good neighborly relations and the implementation of the treaty.

Our country is determined to make every effort to establish lasting peace and tranquility in its region and to protect the rights of our beloved nation. As Turkey takes steady steps towards 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Lausanne Peace Treaty and our Republic, it is also consolidating its effective position in regional and global affairs.

On the 99th anniversary of the Lausanne Peace Treaty, I honor the memory of Mustafa Kemal, his comrades-in-arms and our holy martyrs, and I remember our veterans with respect and gratitude,” Erdogan said.
