GREECE: FINCANTIERI express interest in Elefsis Shipyards

The Ministry of Development & Investments of Greece announced that the Italian group Fincantieri has expressed interest in the Elefsis Shipyards.

“Today was a big step in the process of consolidation of the Elefsis Shipyards. One of the largest shipyard groups in the world, the Fincantieri group, has expressed in writing its interest in starting the process to participate in the effort to reform the Elefsis Shipyards in collaboration with ONEX.

The Greek Government welcomes this proposal and welcomes this initiative. In order for Greece to have a strong shipbuilding industry, it also needs the Elefsis Shipyards.

In recent years, we have been working steadily with the Shipyards of Syros, Skaramagka and Elefsis in order to finally build again a strong shipbuilding industry in the country for which all Greeks will be very proud “. said the Minister of Development & Investment, Adonis Georgiadis.

We remind you that Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias during his recent visit to the USA expressed to his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, the interest of Greece for participation in the construction program of the new American frigate FFG-62, which is being co-produced with Fincantieri.

Consequently, the Italian group’s interest in the shipyards is likely to be linked to the intention to participate in the FFG-62 program or with EPC corvettes.
