Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the claims of US President Joe Biden about a Russian plan to attack NATO states. In an interview on a state television channel in Russia on Sunday, Putin explained that he has no such intention, describing Biden’s statements as “complete nonsense”. However, he did not fail to mention Finland regarding the closing of its borders with Russia shortly after joining NATO.
“It’s complete nonsense – and I think President Biden understands that. Russia has no reason, no interest – no geopolitical interest, neither economic, political nor military – to fight NATO countries,” said the Russian President, adding that his American counterpart probably says this to justify his “erroneous policy”.
Previously, in an effort to persuade Republicans to support the continuation of financial aid to Ukraine, the US President had warned that if Putin won the war with Ukraine, he would not stop there and would invade NATO member states, resulting in American troops fighting against Russian troops.
Despite denying there is a plan to attack NATO countries, the Russian President continued the interview speaking of the tensions with Finland and its recent accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
Referring to the closure of Finland’s borders and the accusation that Russia is orchestrating a migration crisis, Putin said that up to now there were no problems with Finland, but now there will be.
“They dragged Finland into NATO. Did we have any disputes with them? All disputes, including territorial ones in the mid-20th century, have been resolved long ago. There were no problems there. Now there will be because we will create the military district of Leningrad and gather a certain number of military units there,” said Vladimir Putin.
