About 200,000 families in Dnipro and the wider region were left without power after new Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, while the city’s railway station was attacked for the second time in two days. The figures on the outages were given on Saturday, October 31 by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who noted that more than 80,000 families in the Kyiv region are also without electricity.

The Russian attacks targeted, according to Zelensky, a combined heat and power plant in Kyiv, four substations in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Shostka cogeneration plant, railway infrastructure in Dnipro and Kharkiv, and a gas facility. Ukrenergo announced that on Sunday, November 1 scheduled rotating hourly power outages will apply in parts of regions from 06:00 until midnight.

In the night to Saturday the Ukrainian Air Force recorded an attack with 134 Russian drones, of which 72 were jet-powered Shaheds. Air defence shot down or electronically neutralised 105, while strikes were recorded at 20 locations.

Dnipro’s station targeted again

On the afternoon of Friday, October 30 the Russian strikes reached the Dnipro railway station again, where a fire broke out. Apartment blocks and cars were also damaged, and two women were injured. A day earlier, on October 29, a jet-powered drone had hit a platform with a parked train. The toll of that attack rose to 15 dead, ten men and five women, while 11 people were still in hospital, six in serious condition, among them an 11-year-old boy. The region declared a day of mourning.

The Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia spoke of repeated targeted strikes on the station, with no injuries among passengers or employees in the first reports, and is fully refunding ticket prices. The attacks on carriages, locomotives and stations have not stopped train traffic.

Five dead in Sloviansk, Shostka and the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions

In the last 24 hours, announcements from regional authorities add up to five dead from Russian strikes: two in Sloviansk, with 16 injured in the Donetsk region, a 43-year-old woman in the Shostka community in the Sumy region, one in the Dnipropetrovsk region and one in the Zaporizhzhia region, where 935 strikes were recorded on 51 settlements. In Kyiv, three drone strikes on a critical infrastructure facility on Friday night left much of the city without water, with supply returning to normal on Saturday morning.
