Four F-16s of the Greek Air Force harassed the turkish navy’s research vessel “TCG Cesme”, which was conducting survey in the central Aegean, according to Turkish media.
“Greek warplanes harassed the TCG Cesme, which was conducting a hydrographic survey in the international waters of the northern Aegean,” said Turkish Defense Minister Akar, adding that “the necessary response has been given under the rules of engagement.”
Specifically, Turkey claims that four Greek F-16s approached the TCG Cesme west of the island of Limnos and one of them fired a flare against the Turkish ship.
Turkish media also point out that while Turkey is making efforts to resolve the Greek-Turkish issues and to improve relations between the two countries, Greece is constantly doing its best to provoke and increase tensions.
The news of Cesme’s harassment is probably a Turkish provocation and sources in the Greek General Staff have already denied the incident.
