On Thursday, the Greek Defence Minister, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, visited France, where together with his French counterpart, Florence Parly, visited the Naval Group‘s headquarters in the city of Lorient revealing also information about the possible procurement of Gowind corvette ships for the Hellenic Navy.
“Negotiations for the supply and the follow on support contracts were completed last December and the next stages provided by the Greek legislation will be followed, so that the contracts are signed as soon as possible,” Nikos Panagiotopoulos said during his visit.
The supply of “Belharra” frigates will contribute to the significant upgrade of the combat capability and deterrent power of the Hellenic Navy and the Greek Armed Forces, whose main mission is to defend the territorial integrity and sovereign rights of our country.
The supply of “Belharra” frigates comes to complement the recent supply of 18 “Rafale” aircraft and the upcoming supply of six more, turning the page for the Greek Armed Forces, which thus enter a new era, imposed by the times and threats and challenges facing our country (Greece) today.
Let me remind you at this point that the first six “Rafale” are going to land in the coming days at Tanagra Air Base, one year after the signing of the Agreement for their acquisition, to achieve which the contribution of the French Minister of Defence, Florence Parly, was crucial.
