GLSDB: Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb

As the conflict in Ukraine goes on, it is clearer than ever that modern warfare requires the use of “smart” weapons.

In particular, Ukrainian M142 HIMARS and MARS ll launchers armed with GMLRS rockets have scored devastating hits against Russian motorized units and infrastructure. This is in contrast to the capabilities of Russian systems, which are lacking in this regard.

The Swedish company SAAB and the American company Boeing worked together to make the GLSDB rocket.

Technical characteristics of GLSDB

The GLSDB rocket, also known as the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb, is designed after the GBU-39 bomb, which has been utilized by the United States Air Force with great success in a variety of situations.

It is a guided rocket with a range of 150 kilometers that is capable of being launched from fortified locations and striking underground facilities with a CEP of less than one meter.

Due to the fact that it is capable of flying in non-ballistic orbits and performing maneuvers, as well as integrating a system that allows it to avoid topographical barriers such as hills, etc., its destruction is exceptionally difficult.

Two versions

GLSDB comes in two more versions, FLM and Laser SDB.

While the SDB Focused Lethality Munition (FLM) is able to destroy targets with minimal collateral damage, the Laser SDB is able to destroy targets while they are in move.
