According to an announcement by the Hellenic Army on Friday, November 12, 2021, in the framework of international collaborations with friendly and allied countries planned by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, the exercise “Golden Fleece 2021” began.
The exercise started with the participation of a tactical Group of the Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 3rd Greek Army Corps “ALEXANDER THE GREAT”, with the participation also of divisions of the 2nd Motorized Division of the 2nd Greek Infantry Division, the 1st Greek Paratroopers Brigade, the 1st Greek Army Air Brigade, a Romanian Mountain Infantry Squadron, a North Macedonian army Infantry Group as well as with the participation of observers from the Command of US Forces Europe – Africa (USAREUR-AF), Albania, Jordan, and Cyprus.
The exercise used live ammunition and included the capture of strategic ground positions by an Airborne Infantry Squadron with a simultaneous attack by a Motorized Infantry Battalion, in collaboration with transport & attack helicopters with Artillery support.
The final phase of the exercise was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Lieutenant General Ioannis Papanagnostou (as a representative of the Chief of General Staff), the Commander of the 4th Greek Army Corps “THRACE” Lieutenant General Angelos Houdeloudis and the Commander of the Greek Third Army Corps “ALEXANDER THE GREAT” Lieutenant General Anastasios Spanos.
The final phase was also attended by the defense attachés of the US, Jordan, and Romania.
The Hellenic National Defence General Staff states that during the exercise the high level of operational cooperation and the strengthening of the ties of the departments of the participating countries were noted.
