Exercise with USS HARRY S. TRUMAN

On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, as well as on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 January 2022 and in the framework of the planning of Hellenic National Defence General Staff regarding the international collaborations of the Hellenic Armed Forces, joint training of their units was carried out with the US Carrier Strike Group EIGHT, CSG – 8 in the wider sea area of Greek island of ​​Crete.

The Greek side participated with the Frigate ELLI, the fast attack craft LASKOS, the Submarine HS KATSONIS and F-4, F-16 Fighter jets.

The US Carrier Strike Group 8 participated with, the aircraft carrier USS HARRY S. TRUMAN, the USS BAINBRIDGE, USS GRAVELY, USS ROSS, USS ROOSEVELT, the Norwegian HNoMS FRIDTJOF NANSEN Frigate and F-18 Fighter jets.

It is also noted that from the afternoon hours of Tuesday, January 4, 2022, until the morning hours of Wednesday, January 5, Greek Frigate ELLI joined the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN aircraft carrier, combat group.

During the joint exercise with USS HARRY S. TRUMAN, advanced manoeuvres and exercises of air defence, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare were carried out.

This training took place in the framework of the updated Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) between Greece and the USA, contributing to the promotion of the level of operational readiness, combat capability and cooperation of the participants in a bilateral and allied framework.
