A diplomatic attack against Greece was launched by the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, after the expulsion of Russian diplomats.
More specifically, referring to the expulsion of 12 Russian diplomats from our country on April 6, Zakharova in a post on Telegram blamed the Greek state for its attitude, citing the long-standing ties between the two countries, even reporting on the revolution of 1821.
The representative of the Russian Foreign Minister linked the expulsion with the visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USA to Greece. She pointed out that due to the EU and NATO, the Greek state deprives its people of the right to independence and choice.
She also wrote in her post about Russia’s help in the Greek revolution and stated that the country (Greece) whose first governor was the Russian Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was now left with virtually no diplomatic relations with Russia.
She also accused the Greek government of “devilishly accurate calculations”, as of April 6, when the diplomats were declared “persona non grata”, was the anniversary of the German invasion of Greece in 1941.
Still, calling the Greeks “friends” and referring to the common religion and culture, she said that Russia never refused to help the Greek People.
